In this guide, we'll cover how to sign up with Affirm and create a merchant account.
Signing up
On Affirm's website, click the 'For businesses' section at the top of the page, or go to this page.
Fill out the eight fields in the form as accurately as you can, and then select the tick box.
Finally, click Get started. This sends Affirm a request to sign up. We'll then evaluate your business and contact you with a decision.
Creating a merchant account
You can create a merchant account whilst you are waiting for Affirm to contact you.
After creating the account, complete the application information.
You can skip these forms for now, but you'll have to complete them if you want to choose a custom pricing package.
After submitting the form and selecting your pricing package, Affirm will receive the request and contact you shortly with an approval or denial. You'll be able to see the merchant dashboard, but nothing will work (orders, APIs, etc.) until your business is approved by Affirm.
After approval, you can start integrating Affirm into your shopper flows and marketing the functionality.
At the bottom right, you'll see an 'A' icon. Use it to search for questions about Affirm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions from prospective/new Affirm partners:
Q: I filled out an Interest Form and created a business account. Have I finished with my application?
A: Almost! Submit additional information in the 'Tell us about your business' section. After that, you'll have officially submitted an application to us. Our team will review it and contact you within 3–5 business days.
Q: I want to know my financing programme options before completing an application.
A: A typical Affirm fee is a base percentage + £X.XX per transaction. This varies by business type and size. Depending on the information that you provide in your merchant application, we'll show the financing programme option(s) available to your business.
If you have concerns or questions when filling out your application, contact our Merchant Development team.
Q: How long does it take for Affirm to process my application and approve/decline it?
A: Our team does our best to contact you with an application decision within 3–5 business days. Check your Spam and/or Promotions folder in case our email ends up there.
If you still haven't heard back, contact our Merchant Development team for an update. You can also use the Resource Centre widget at the bottom right of the Affirm Merchant portal > Support Resources > Submit a Ticket.
Q: My application was declined before. Can I reapply?
A: Yes! We constantly re-evaluate our merchant relationships and are always expanding our business model and partnership opportunities.
Contact our Merchant Development team first if you want to reapply. This helps to avoid any application errors due to having duplicates in our system.
Q: Why was my application denied?
A: We appreciate your interest in Affirm! We wish we could partner with every merchant, but your business might fall under our Prohibited Business Policy.
If your business does not fall under these categories, contact our Merchant Development team.
